My wife is interested in trading her automatic trans. turbo Beetle for a TT. She can drive a maual but has been spoiled by the auto.
Any word when or if Audi will make the tiptronic available in the TT?
Thanks.

For 2003 the 180 will only come in an automatic FWD model.....No more 5 spd or quattro. The 225 will continue in the 6spd quattro version.

Told my Audi parts manager friend about the TT 180 being Tip only next year. We all think it's stupid but he had a good take on it that I haven't seen here today: The TT was introduced as the affordable $30K sports car. I remember reading this in one of my "history of TT" literature packs, prolly the R&T guide. That was the goal. Now it won't be affordable anymore. Add a Tip to a 180 and your at $36K, add a roadster and you're at $38K. The current base TT is the 180 Fwd at $34K.
So what are the people gonna buy that want a $30K sports car? A 350Z. Period.
My other point is simply to warn you to not underestimate the 5 speed Tiptronic in auto mode. 3 butt dynos agree so far that my Jetta Wagon pulls significantly harder than my 180 TT did and it weighs 400Lbs more. I have done 2 stretches of road at in my new JeTTa and gone faster before I had to control throttle (cloverleafs) than I could in my TT.
I know you may think I am just trying to justify my station wagon purchase by denigrating my TT, and that may be true to a small degree. But wait until you drive a TipTT, it may surpise you.

I really wonder about Audi's (and VAG's) marketing plans.
The auto tranny TT is clearly designed to make a lower-priced car accessible to the masses (by adding the AT), but precludes sporty performance. The auto tranny TTs will probably not do better than 7.5 0-60s... but will be a nice poseurmobile for the giggly teenager crowd. The sport-minded driver will have to go for (new cars) the 225TT, S6 or S4 (when available) or buy used.
180 auto tranny. All it needs is a bud vase.
