Default Tire Bulge- Uh oh..

Walked around the car today and spotted a bulge on the sidewall of the rear tire. Anyone had any success getting this repaired at the dealer? They only have about 4500 miles on them.

Default Yep, my dealer replaced mine at 1200 miles. But this was last summer, when...

he had to go to the regional Bridgestone rep to even get a tire. They may shove you off on Bridgestone since the tires are more common (no, I did not say COMMON) and you have that many miles.

Be insistent, they should satisfy you at the dealer.

Good luck
Ivan

If on arrival dealer says:"Is that a bulge in your tire or are you just glad to see me?" Slap him!

Default ObsessTT had better luck than I did :(

Had the same problem not too long ago. Dealer laughed...Ha Ha...guess what your warranty *doesn't* cover, sent me to the Bridgestone dealer.
Bridgestone dealer tore it down, looked at the big slice on the inside and lauged...Ha Ha...Road Hazard. Not covered.
Give your dealer a try, ObsessTT might be right...if you make enough noise...maybe, to keep you happy, they'll cover it. But, don't be surprised if you end up paying for this one.
I was a bit surprised that the local dealer was only $10 above the TireRack price, pre-shipping. But it did take him a week to get the tire.

Default That is due to road hazard, not a defect. It is not replaceable under warranty.

I also had the "bulge" and had to buy a new tire on my own. ObsessTT is an exception to the rule and was very lucky that his dealer replaced his.

Check Tire Rack for replacement.

Default Bubble happened to me too

The dealer won't replace it. It happened to me. The dealer noticed it during the 5k service. The tire dealer will open up the tire. If there is a break in the inner part of the tire (likely) that means it was due to a pothole and you'll have to pay $250+ for a new tire...

Default It's a "blowout" that didn't happen...

When the tire hits a sharp "bump" in the road hard enough, you can *pinch* the inside lining of the tire are produce that bubble in the sidewall. If you look at a tire from the inside, you will see a smooth surface that is designed to hold the air along with the wheel. If you rupture this lining, the air will leak into the carcass of the tire and produce that bubble in a localized spot.

It IS a road hazard. It's the blowout that didn't blow all the way out.

Good luck to all of you guys on the road. Never drive with a bubble on your tire. It is a catastrophe waiting to happen.

To guard against this, be sure to run the proper inflation in your tires and periodically run your hands along the tread and both sides to check for irregularities. Too low tire pressure and a sharp impact can screw you.

Default Re: Tire Bulge- Uh oh..

I recently took my car to a Sears (Bridgestone retailer) tire dealership and they said that they will replace my tire, with a bulge in the sidewall, as a manufacturing defect, unfortunately they are having trouble locating the 17" model. I will keep you posted.
