Default Yep, bubbles / blisters and cracks. Check the link.

<< The 225/45R17/91Y tire is a low aspect ratio, ultra high performance tire that enhances handling, steering accuracy, braking and all around performance of the vehicle under a variety of driving conditions. However, these low aspect ratio tires may also be more susceptible to damage caused by certain road hazards than higher aspect ratio tires. Audi S4 and TT vehicles that are equipped with 225/45R17/91Y low aspect ratio tires can experience damage due to impact from potholes, curbs or other obstacles on road surfaces. Visible presence of sidewall "bubbles" , " bulges," or " blisters" , indicates that the webbing inside the sidewall of the tire was damaged. Such damage can lead to loss of air and under-inflation, which could result in tire failure.

Audi of America, Inc. is notifying owners of these vehicles of a one time Customer Satisfaction Enhancement Program. A copy of the letter describing the Program and a copy of the insert to the Owners Manual is attached to this Service Circular for your information. Only vehicles described above qualify for this Program.
Audi S4 and Audi TT vehicles equipped with 225/45R17/91Y original equipment or Audi
approved replacement tires that exhibit damage caused by impact with a pothole or obstacles on the road and not caused by a non impact road hazard, abuse or negligence will be replaced free of charge to the notified customer while their vehicle is covered under the Limited New Vehicle Warranty, providing there is at least 2mm of tire tread remaining. >>

And so on...

There's been a lot of discussion, and scans of the letters sent out, etc. Check via search.

http://tech.vw.com/audipdf/awa0011us.pdf</a

Default Not A Recall!

This is NOT a recall. It is a free replacement of tires that have a defect.
