Default Tires

I'll be purchasing a 2003 TT Roadster 225 within the next week or so. I live outside NYC where we had quite a bit of snow this year (more than the typical winter, but it does snow each year). I'm wondering if I should get the optional 17 inch 225/45 all season tires for year round use, or should I plan to purchase a set of snow tires and wheels and put them on in the winter?

Default If you don't get the all-seasons, you will have to get snows in the winter.

You can NOT drive the stock tires on snow, so you will have to have an option for when snow is possible. The best option is to get a second set of wheels and put snow tires on them and then change wheels in the spring and fall.

If you don't mind having lower performance tires all year, you can get the all-seasons. This is the cheapest option, but won't be as fun since they won't be great in the summer or winter, but they'll get you where you need to go.

Default Bite the bullet, get the snows for winter and good performance tires for the rest of the year.

Default all-seasons suck in all seasons ... get snows ...

all-seasons do nothing but compromise your summertime fun and destroy the wintertime advantages of quattro. do not get all-seasons!

Default Tire technology has come a long ways...

Having spend four winters in northern Japan in the mid to late 80s, and swapping tires in the spring and fall got to be a real PITA! Storage problems, etc. Since it is your daily driver, as is mine and we get lots of snow and ice here in Wisconsin, and if your not driving at the track, very aggressive ralleying, etc., a good ultra-high performance all season tire will take care of your needs year round, and you get to have nice wheels (if you purchase them) for the viewing pleasure of the large audience who appreciate TTs. I would purchase your own set though, since I don't think the dealer is going to go out of their way to get you an outstanding set. I'm running Sumitomos and love 'em. And I'm driving on some great curvey roads with Boxsters, 911s and 350Zs, and we look like we're tied together with a short rope!! Enjoy the TT... there really is nothing out there like it!!
