Cut back carbs, especially refined carbs (ie white bread, simple sugars, white rice) and throw in some whole grains if you need them.

Heart Healthy fats, lots of lean protein and all the brightly colored veggies you can find. Fill up on veggies first, then eat the rest of your meal.

I don't know a thing about which treadmill is good or bad, but I do know a thing or two about marathons.

If this is your first marathon (not sure from your post) I'd suggest you find a training program that is for first timers and follow that. There are several out there which will help you along. A good spot to look and for supportive forums is www.coolrunning.com

Beyond that, the biggest piece of advice I can give you is go to a quality running store (not a sports store but a running only store) and get properly fitted for running shoes that fit your running gate. This will be the best step you can take in preventing injuries.
