TT 2006 convertible: Door sensor malfunction?

Hi!
I am totally new here, proud new owner since 4 weeks of a black 2006 Audi TT with only 30k miles. Love it!
But I have apperently an issue with the Door sensor: The car does not realize when I open the drivers door, meaning that the indoor light does not go on, the little "computer screen" (sorry, not sure of the right naming) does not display the open door on the little display and also - which concerns me the most - the window does not go down any more when the door opens. Normally, when the door is open and before you shut it close again, the window would go down just a bit not to hit the frame and worst case break. Also, the ringing sound does not go off when you turn off your car, take out the key but leave your headlights on.
Not being a techie, but for me this kind of sounds like there must be a sensor somewhere that tells the car that the door is opened and then triggers things like indoor lights, windows down etc.
Does anyone have an idea what it would take to fix it? I hope it's not a big deal.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Philip

That is a common problem. Here are a couple of good write ups to repair it without buying a new latch assembly. I did mine a couple of years ago. Took me a couple of hours.

Hi J.!
Thanks for your reply!
I checked out the write-up. Sounds reasonable.
Do you remember what switch you had used to solve the problem?
If there's anybody in the Seattle area who has experiences with this, please let me know. I'd love to get some (paid) help on this.
Thanks!
