Default TT 225hp vs Porsche 928

I guess I had unrealistic expectations of the TT when I bought the 225hp model. I wish I'd held out for a larger engine. I think the body style of the TT is about the most stunningly beautiful style around and I like the dash layout...but compared to my old 1985S 32V 300hp Porsche 928 (cheap to buy and relatively expensive to maintain), there's simply no comparison. Admittedly, the TT is more modern and cushey with the new doo-dads but for pure comfort, acceleration, cornering at any speed, and grand touring, the 928 beats it hands down...and for less than half the money! In the 928 I get 147mph in 4th gear QUICKLY and I have another gear left! (5 speed). But I love the TT too...it's fun to toodle around in but for sheer driving fun...the 928 Porsche beats it...in my opinion. And the exhaust sound is out of the world. Admittedly, from 0-80 it may be a toss up...but from 80-140mph, the TT is just a distant memory. In the TT, on a curve, I feel like the car's going to tip. In the 928, it seems like it just starts hugging the ground....kinda like it's got magnets holding it down. Wow! On the other hand...928 reliability isn't the same(It is an old car after all), parts availability is erratic, labor costs are high, good mechanics hard to find, lots of electrical gremlins, etc. High performance cars don't come cheap. I like the both. The TT is my eye-turner daily driver...the Porsche is my serious road/weekend rally car. Just because soemthing's old doesn't mean it's not good. H2

Default a Modshack Stage 3 car would change your opinion quickly>>>

plus some suspension mods......

remember, the TT was not built from the ground up as a sports car, or even a grand touring GT...
Porsche, is...well.. Porsche. It is a machinery at a level that is different from every car on the road, except the exotics..in my opinion.
Porsche's are designed to run the track right from the showroom floor.

The fun part about the TT, is that it has SOOOO much potential. Anyone here with medium level modifications, would give the 928 a run for its money to 100mph.....after that, you would need a more heavily modded car to catch ya.

Also remember, a v8 vs a inline 4 turbo...lots of noises and pro's and con's that highlight both...

I have owned a 996 and spent a lot of time in MANY porsche's....they are wonderful...but i just love this TT for day to day...just my opinion....

Default the 3.2 isn't much faster than the 225. 25 more bhp, but with lots more weight... (more)

In the end, the 3.2 is faster, but not by a whole lot faster. If you turbo the 3.2 engine though... hold on to your butt. But that also requires many other mods to the engine and can get quite expensive, and it is much more dificult to gain extra power from unless you slap a turbo on it. Since it's the same engine as in the VW R32, there are modds availible for it. I haven't yet seen anyone turbo a 3.2 TT (don't know why), but the turbo R32's I've seen would rock your Porsche's world... utterly.

Stock to stock, you might be correct, but with a capacity for almost 30 pounds of boost on stock internals, the 225bhp 1.8T TT engine has much more potential than you may think. Mod my friend... mod... and the TT will take the place as the weekend rally car.

it's easier to slap a supercharger on the 3.2, at least in the R32s case.

Default Yeah, but if you're shelling out the big $ for the Turbo kit.... (more)

then getting the 6sp manual tranny from the VW R32 wouldn't be a big deal. I can't see a reason why it wouldn't just bolt right on. Same engine, same basic chasis, same underpinnings... shouldn't be that hard. And the R32's tranny is supposedly one of the strongest, most reliable trannys (stock anyway) on the market today. I've seen numbers from the turbo'd R32's in the 600bhp range with torque numbers even higher.... and they still have interiors and lights, with legal plates and stickers... so they're not "track cars". Can you imagine what a 600bhp TT would be like. (drooling) I've seen the black 660bhp TT with the RS4 motor swap in it, but dear lord that thing is expensive.

Default Yes, but Super Chargers are quick... Turbos are FAST! Turbo can give you WAY more gain. (more)

screw easy, screw cheap, if you're going in that direction... go big or stay home. =)
