you are comparing a Porsche which costed WAAAAAY MORE than the TT when it was released.
you could apply this theory to anything.
you could compare a $15,000 Toyota Corolla to a $15,000 USED LOTUS and come up with the same argument...it's pretty much irrelevant.
Sure one can buy a 928 for $20,000 used or whatever, but the cost to keep the car running well, along with its aging technology would put me off pretty quickly.
As for performance, i'm assuming your TT is stock then? a chipped TT with a slightly modded suspension should be able to take a 928, whatever the case is.
Comparisons between cars are fine....but keep things in perspective when you do them.

does make more power. I do have an issue with cam wear in the 928 and it is not a cheap car to own. I like the TT handling and don't think the 928 was better. I guess if anything it is apples and oranges; The 928 is better is some ways and not in others - that is all. JIM
