Default TT Autocross Competetive?

I managed to find a couple of messages in the archive that mention the TT FWD as being competetive in AutoX. I was curious if anyone had any info on how competetive the Quattro is in it's class (and what class it would actually compete in).

Any other info on the performance of any TT vehicle type in AutoX would also be appreciated....

Thanks!

Default Yes yes yes...

I autocross my 225TTQ in A Stock (Most Porsches, S4, MR2 Turbo, etc.). The 180 is in G Stock (Eclipse, Integra Type R, etc). I do very well in ASL for my first season and learning the car. The Turbo lag is very challenging on tighter courses and there is a bit of ECU wierdness under heavy left foot braking. But on more wide open courses the handleing & horsepower are unbeatable.

I'm running 17" 225/45 BFG g-force and 1/8 overall toe out. Tire pressure sure is funky on the Quattro. About 20 lbs difference (front to rear) on asphalt and 7 lbs difference on concrete.

It is definalty not an easy car to autocross, but when you know where the boost is and you don't overdrive the car, it is mindblowing. Have fun its worth the $$$$

I'd sure like to get rid of that turbo lag. It is substantially greater than on the 180, with its smaller, quicker spooling turbo. The bypass valve problem seems to have made the lag even worse.

I wonder if there is a way to program out some/all of this lag, or if it is just the nature of the beast?

Default Are you really running Toe OUT?

Juliann:

If you are running the toe out, are you chaning the setting to toe in for driving on the street? Toe out is not exactly what would be considered a safe way to setup a car!

In rolled my race car years ago because the toe was set OUT and not IN as I had specified!

Please be careful if this is how you are driving the car everyday.

Default Yep-

The handeling on race tyres was unbeliveable after the 1/8 toe OUT alignment. Fantastic on concrete at the Solo Tour in Peru Indiana. We'll see about Nationals in Topeka.

I've heard that "Paint Me" (180 TT SCCA NY area) is running 1/4 toe out overall. I didn't want to go that drastic, for an everyday driver. And yes she's quite twitchy on street tires now, expecially on uneven pavement. I beleive that if I was road racing, the alignment would be a completly different story. But for AutoX, its the way to be. I'll try to keep the shiny side up

Default I know all about setting up a car for Auto-X .. .

Juliann, I raced for almost 10 yrs in auto-x and I also ran teh NYR SCCA program. when I raced I ALWAYS reset my suspension for the street. if you say the car is twitchy now, wait until the back-end slides even a little! You will have a very difficult time correcting it. Once the back-end goes, even quattro will not be able to get the rear end back in line.

I understand the reasons for setting the toe-out and 1/4" is absolutely idiotic! When I see Art I will even tell him that in person!

be safe

Default I am grasshopper...

As it is my first season in AutoX I am learning lots As well as just learning the TTQ. I need all the advice I can get from you guys.

The toe out actually helped plant the rear end too much during AutoX. The front was pushing way too much and I couldn't get the back end to slide out at all! I really had to mess with tire pressure to get the rear to slide out during the Peru event. Granted its pretty grippy concrete, but I haven't had the problems you describe. Once I got it right, I kicked butt. Ya know- fall out of the car with wobbley legs full of adrenaline after a near perfect run.

Will I see you and Art at Nationals? I'll buy drinks....

Default ECU weirdness upon left foot braking...

...is pairs of injectors shutting down. When the Motronic unit receives a signal from the brake switch, it will then start shutting injectors off to reduce decel emissions.
Jason Dale
