Default TT Battery Notch - What replacement battery fits?

Just bought a 2001 Quattro that has been in storage and needs a new battery. I stopped at Autozone on the way home. The battery they suggested fit in the casing OK but it would not secure into place well.

It appears that at the rear base of the battery housing there is a lip that the battery must fit under. The lip seems to have a "bump" in it. The original battery has a notch that allows it to recieve the "bump" and fit under the lip.

The Audi dealer wants $140 for a $70 battery.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Default Get an optima red top... 34R is the model number for direct replacement...

Especially if you leave the car for long periods.

Thanks. I think I've heard of these...is it a real high end battery? What do they cost. I'm not planning on leaving it?

Will this have the special notch I mentioned or is there a work-around?

Thanks,

Steve

Default I would consider it "high end" but it's worth it... 0 maintenance

and will not die easily.

I just installed one of these myself. 36/100 warranty. No one had the Optima in stock.

Default Am I nuts about the notch?

No one has mentioned it. I had Sears put in the International Diehard. (Thanks to all for recommendations). I couldn't find the 34R.

Just like I described, it didn't fit under the rear hold-down. When I pointed this out to the installers, they put a notch in the casing with a dremel tool so that it matched the original battery and then it fit..sort of.

I'm wondering why no one mentioned it. Do you just not worry about it being under the rear hold down?

Thanks to all!

Steve

You're nuts. I installed mine without any such problems.
