Browsing the archives: Noticed a question regarding mileage. Since the fuel price in Norway is equivalent to $4.7/gallon (and a TT-FWD costs $57K) one tends to get conscious about fuel consumtion. I have played around with the numbers (metric vs. US system) and here are the results:
The car is trough the break-in period (10 800 miles), so all figures should be optimal. The mileage is measured over a distance of 125 miles (to and from work, inluding warm-up, city 30% and highway (Norwegian though) 70%.
On an average day, incl. us of AC, the mileage is 35 m/g (0,67 l/10km) with an average speed of 43 miles/hour (69 km/hour).
My best result (Summer 99, 20C, no AC, following the traffic (lots of foreign tourists), average speed 31 miles/hour): 41 miles/gallon (0,57 l/10km).
Being in a hurry (over-slept etc. average speed 50 miles/hour): 29 m/g (0.81 l/10km)
In fact, the results do not differ much from the mileage om my previous 98 Golf mk.IV with a 1600cc, 100hp engine (36/43/30). I guess the main reason for a high fuel consumtion on a TT is the URGE TO PUSH THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR!!!

As a fuel economy freak, I found this posting very informative. Gas is less expensive here in the US, but I still like the thought of an engine that is both powerful AND fuel efficient. That's one reason I ordered a FWD rather than a Quattro.
I'm looking foward to clocking my own TT's fuel economy in a few weeks. Thanks for the post!
