Default TT with no winter tires? Dangerous?

I live in Toronto, ON, and I was wondering if it's ok without winter tires in winter. 17" 225 wheels still ok with quattro?

Default Summer tires are called that for a reason. Get snows...

driving on performance tires in snow, especially as cold and snowy as it can get up north, is asking for a disaster. IMO.

Default Depends on the tire...If it's an all season, it's fine, but a High Perf tire

will just freeze up rock solid and it'll be like driving on hockey pucks...Summer and Winter tires use different rubber compounds for flexibility and grip for particular conditions...

I slid through 3 intersections in my TTRQ before changing over to All seasons...Was just fine after that.

Default For the rare occasion? Should be OK snow all winter? Get snows.

It really depends on how well you drive and stop and how much you like your car. Personally I would invest in snows if I was driving in snow and ice all winter just because I don't really want to temp fate. The price of a broken headlight alone could pay for the snows.
That being said, my "snow car" in CT was a 1981 Pontiac Bonneville Brogham with semi bald retreads and I never had a problem. Mastering the art of drifting that baby was fun

What tires? I am in Ottawa and would not dare drive on my OEM tires in the snow.

Default Soiled the laundry several times last year with OEM's. Got snows this year, BIG difference.

Driving in the snow now is whole lot of fun instead of being scarry.

Save yourself a lot of grief and get some good snow tires.

Default TT with no winter tires!! Dangerous in Snow/Sleet Yes!!

If they are the hi preformance tires that come with the TT, change. I drove in Sleet and Freezing Rain, not good. I live in New England, and for the winters I am running Dunlop SP® Winter Sport M2 tires in a 205 55 16 size, even in snow it feels like you are on dry pavement.

Two articles I found on past posts when I was looking for snows:

Snow tires 205/55-16 H tested

Latest issue of german magazine "Auto Zeitung" (23/99) runs a rare test of eight snow tires in dimension 205/55-16 H! Posting this since such information is so hard to come by.

In finishing order:
Michelin Pilot Alpin XSE -- best in snow and water, tied 2nd in dry
Dunlop Wintersport M2 -- 2nd in snow and water, 3rd in dry
Pirelli Snowsport 210 -- 3rd in snow and water, tied 2nd in dry
Continental TS 790 -- best in the dry, 4th in snow and water

then a noticeable rating gap (for almost every test condition) down to:
Vredestein Wintrac
Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip
Fulda Kristall Rotego

The eighth "competitor" was a typical three year old, 50% worn set of snow tires: handles well in the dry and acceptable on snow and in the wet, but actual braking or cornering performance in the wet or on snow is significantly reduced due to ageing. Take care with your other wheels!
And then

Car driver article on snows. http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/columns/2001/March/200103_columns_csere_snowtires.xml?keywords=snow%2 0tires
