If you think the TT has problems, you should have been around in the late 50's and 60's with the British cars. The TT's are a cake walk compared to the problems back then.

Default I could not agree more...

I got my roadster back in mid-April of 2000. I believe it was the second one in Dallas. So I am probably one of the first(maybe 200) owners of the roadster in the US.

I have loved every day of 'ownership' And I have been extremely lucky with problems; I have had none except for the window problem - but that had not happened in well over a year. Of course, I only have about 18,000 miles on it.

But still, I will cry no tears when I return it to Audi as it is a lease car. I truly fear what the cost of ownership would be without a warranty.

Default Consumer Reports tries to be everything to everyone, and that's just impossible. They are experts

at nothing, and dilettantes at everything. There is no possible way that they can accurately judge all the products they purport to. When I was in the consumer electronics business, and someone walked in with a CR in their hand, I would avoid them like the plague.

I find their reviews to be extremely perfunctory. If I want to find reviews of cars, I will buy a magazine dedicated to cars, and the same for any big-ticket item. Why would I trust a magazine that reviews cars, toasters, umbrellas and dishwasher detergent all in the same issue?

Default I agree with CR, if it bases its ratings on reliablity

My TT sucks as far as reliability. I have had countless problems that no one should expect with a new $40K car. It is in the shop monthly for problems, mostly minor, but a few major.

If I had to do it all over again, would I buy the TT? ABSOLUTELY! I don't love it for its reliability; I love it for its style, performance, handling, and chick-appeal.

Default Good comments. BTW, if you replace...

The Haldex control unit, that whine should go away, assuming it's the infamous "Morse Code" whine. There is another whine relating to the rear defroster, and there is a different fix for that.

I had many repair attempts for the "Morse Code" whine, all of which were unsuccessful. Then, at my request, Audi replaced the Haldex control unit and it fixed the problem completely. It is an expensive repair for Audi, but that's not my problem.

Default No offense, but who cares if it's better than a 60's era sports car? It's 2002, and...

...people have come to expect reliability from all of their cars, sports oriented or not. Blame Mazda or whomever you'd like, but the modern consumer market doesn't allow a modern sports car to be engineered without concern to reliability.

Just my humble opinion.

People spent a lot of money expecting reliability in those days too, no car is going to perfect. I've had my share of problems, even to the point that this is my second TT. The first one was taken back after 3 months. And this one had problems too. But you know what, I get in the car every day and it goes. If it dosen't Audi gets the problem not me. I've been watching this forum for about 2 years and the most complaints are ego problems.
