Default The TT of Sailboats....

Took one of these out for sea trials on Sunday. An amazing performer in light air, capable of Vic-Maui (ocean race), loaded with comfort options and about 80K less than a similarly equipped J109.
My wife was PISSED at the J Boat dealer because of price until we parked next to a 996 at the Beneteau dealer and I explained the difference...
the Porsche is better performing at a breath-taking price increase while the TT is just about perfect and leaves a little left over for dinner. THIS she understands )

Default A guy at my club just got one of those (maybe it's the next size up)...

I love how Bruce Farr is doing design for Beneteau...

I know a lot of people with them that love em. Although, in the long run, a J boat might be a better value. I certainly see more 10 year old J boats than 10 year old Beneteaus.

What about a used J/120??? :-D Or ya could screw it and buy a Farr 395! (nicer for cruising than the Farr 40)

Default Eight year old J120's are 200K!!!

I haven't looked at any Farrs yet but will hopefully get a chance. I did look at a C&C 99 which was also very cool but a bit too small for my cruising needs.
The J Boat community here is huge ( I part-own a J24) and I love the community that revolves around the race season. The First 36.7 is a one-design with a new class association and there are several boats in the area already so I won't have to give up the community to save 80K. Plus I can still do J24 Racing and PHRF with the 36.7.
Big boat show this week so I'll have plenty to chew on!

Default Ouch... didn't realize they held value that well....

but I think a used Farr will be even more than a J120.

I'm a big fan of the racing community. I missed my second Saturday night in college to go home and sail (this weekend). What sport can you have fierce competition and drink together afterwards?!

Default Agreed. Beneteau are hitting some nails firmly on the head these days.

Witness what's going on in Europe in Commodore's Cup etc....

Nice boat. When can I come and help you thrash it around? Seriously, done a boatload of big boat racing in the last 30 years....

Default Well a lot of things need to happen before I get something like this....

But IF and WHEN it does happen, y'all will be the first to know. And I WILL be planning to do some ocean racing (at least once to say I did it) and then I will need an experienced crew.
A First 40.7 finished first in her class and 7th overall at this year's Vic-Maui and 36.7's are doing suprisingly well too.
If I'm not careful I'm gonna talk myself into it right here, lol.
