TT vs R32 Question
Hey Guys,
Thought I'd ask both you and the R32 guys, but I am kind of in a sticky situation. In a few months I'm going to be making my next car purchase and I thought I was settled on a used 225 TT coupe....but after driving the R32 it seems I may not be so sure. I fell in love with the Recaro seats, the stock exhaust, and smooth VR6...I know both cars are somewhat similar (same chasis and haladex quattro system) but at the same time very different (engine, interior, etc)....wanted to see if anyone maybe went GTI -->> TT or the other way around...trying to make up my mind. At this point the only factor is that R32 may have more cargo room while TT couple is somewhat limited on what I could throw in the back and take with me at times..So let me know what you think? Used TT Coupe or Used R32? Thanks.

GTI --> TT
I sold my 20th Anniversary 2003 GTI for my TT, and i love it. at the same time, i am dealing with more annoying little things here and there that i wouldn't have to worry about with my new gti. if you can appreciate all that the TT has to offer down to every subtle detail, go for it, and you'll love it. if reliability is still a pressing issue for you at this point, stick with the R32, its newer and they're going for cheap now.

I went from GTI to TTQR
but I didn't have an R32 so I can't answer your question exactly (I had a 180hp 1.8T). The reason I upgraded is mainly because I wanted a convertible, and the extra hp was a nice bonus too. I can't answer your question exactly, but once I sold the GTI to get the TT, I was extremely happy and have never looked back. Hope that helps at least a little bit.

Easy answer
GTI R32 = Practical 4WD Golf, plus has added bits, seats, brakes, 6 speed. Cheaper sticker price, most likely higher used price.
225 TTQ = For same drivability you will need to Chip ECU. The big plus is that the TT is in a much higher class visually. R32 is great but still a Golf....You should be able to find a CPO 225 with 100K warrantee for mid/high 20s. I think maybe slightly higher for a used R32. I think CPO R32 also only gives you 50K warrantee.
So stylish sports car or cool sport compact. Your image, your decision.

when my 225 TT was stock i could beat up on stock r32s, now with only a rear sway bar and stickies. i can really blow them away, even some with full H&R suspension plus stickies(spings, shocks, and swaybars.)
i never would have guessed but i can and do on a regular basis.
