TTR Enigne OIL Question???
#11
Pretty much what he said...
Depends on what you mean by "very very low". If it's really below the add mark, I would top it off and get to the dealer as soon as you can. Like Larry said, none of us have had problems with burning oil, but maybe you've got a leak somewhere?

I think you two may be caught up in semantics. Although not technically a "break-in oil" it is a ...
synthetic that you are advised to leave without changing for at least the first 5,000 miles.

Ellen, it is not semantics!
Their is no need to change your oil until your first service at 5k. That does NOT make it a break-in oil. The reason for the "advice" from the dealer is pretty simple. If you go into the dealer and ask them to change the oil much earlier than the 5k intervals on the '00 and the 10k interval on the '01 then the customer will have to pay for that oil change. If the customer is asked to pay for something that is "supposed" to be covered by the Audi warranty then the dealer will have an irate customer on their hands. That is something that ALL dealers try and avoid.
I know this from experience. How you might ask? I changed my oil a few weeks after I got my car! I asked the dealer to do it for me and they said that I would have to pay for this. I asked them why since the Audi warranty clearly stated that oil changes are covered. They said they are only covered when performed at the recommended intervals.
If someone wants to change their oil every 1,000 miles it will NOT harm the engine, only someone's wallet. The 1.8t engine is about as close to bullet proof as you are going to see on the road today. It will take a helluva lot of abuse to blow one of these up.
