Turbo Bypass Valve Question

I have a 2000 180 FWD Coupe. Last summer, I started hearing the rattle sound just after upshifts. Turned out to be the turbo bypass valve. The dealer replaced it with a new, series H valve which fixed the problem.
Now, about a year later, the rattle noise has reappeared. Only, this time, they replaced the valve with a newer series N valve. The noise was lessened but still there and acceleration was noticeably less vibrant. And within a day of the service, my "check engine" light came on.
The technician said that the "check engine" light was on due to a lean mixture which might indicate a loose vacuum hose...possibly something that happened during the valve replacement. So they tried yet another valve replacement (with another series N valve) and tightened a loose vacuum hose. This time, the noise after upshifts is almost gone, and the acceleration is a little better, but not like it was.
My question is: should I consider a third party bypass valve (Bailey, etc.)? Is that likely to solve the two problems of noise after upshifts and acceleration? (Incidentally, I've always thought that this TT was a little "lurchy"...kind of hard to accelerate smoothly from a dead stop. Is that common with TT's?? Thanks for any advice!!

I had a similar problem. Increased turbo lag with lack luster performance and the "check engine" light coming on. The error code was also same as you reported.
With a vacuum pump/gage I quickly discovered that the OEM DV diaphragm was ruptured. Rather that deal with Audi I replaced it with a Forge DV. Performance is restored.
I cleared the error code using Ross-Tech's VAG software.

Thanks for the info. Does the Forge DV give you a better acceleration than the OEM DV? And, does it improve the smoothness of the acceleration? Are all TT's a little "lurchy" (particularly in 1st gear)??
