On the Turbo Charge Pipe, can you knock out the turbo muffler and not put a piece of pipe in?

What does putting the pipe to replace the muffler do, i really don't know much about this stuff. Is it because the larger diameter would cause the air to slow down in that spot or what. TIA

And I'm not convinced the muffler does anything to impede performance. Like a resonator, it just controls noise..

The silencer is quite brittle so you can chisel it out by snapping bits off it a piece at a time.
The best way I've found is to burn it out.
