Default the unthinkable.......getting rid of the TT?

due to circumstances beyond my control, i MAY have to get rid of the TT. Here is the situation. it is a leased 2000 TT coupe 180, fully loaded. i have had the car since 5/99, i am not even 1/2 way thru my lease (14 of 39 mos) and only have 8500 miles, the car is in great shape, garage kept etc.

should i ask audi about a trade in, thinking about an A4 (cheaper and bigger). should i try to put the car on the open market? whats the residual like? will i get hammered by lease termination fees?

i know i paid a premium on my lease to be the first TT on the block. im not familiar w/ all the inner workings of leasing so I wanna know what my options are before i decide.

any suggestions? thanks in advance

my main concern with selling it is the fact that the 2001 releases, 2000 roadster and quattro's out there would render the 2000 coupe a bit less desirable. Heck even the 2001 coupes are being released. Hence, my coupe would difficult to sell..........accurate?

i will break out the contract today and try to make sense of it.

thanks again

Default The dealer will tell you that it will be difficult to sell. It is not.

Do they have a TT on the lot for sale at all? Mine didn't and he was telling me that demand is down for TT's. Aaah-bullshirt!

My 2000 Fwd loaded expect phone had a lease payoff of $30,600. This was with 13 of 39 payments under my belt.

Ask about a "courtesy resale" also. If you bring a buyer willing to pay the lease payoff amount, they might be willing to buy your car back from VW/Audi leasing and resell it at that same price. This saves you from paying the taxes on the rest of your lease if you just pay it off with proceeds from a private sale. The dealer may do this if you are purchasing another Audi. They should want to keep you happy and keep you in Audi's!!

Call VW leasing and get a payoff quote. They will put it in writing. That will give you a starting point.

This is doable and it doesn't have to hurt too bad.

Where are you? Someone may be able to recommend a friendly dealer in your area, if there is more than 1.

Default 2001 hardly affects 2000 prices...

...and if you haven't done the ESP modifications to it some people would want that car more instead...
Tom Boucher

How can you sell something you don't own? Wouldn't the dealer or the financing co. have to do that?

Default You would pay off the rest of the monthly dues then buy the car from the bank.. understand?

Default I understand that method of course, but your posting was backwards, it's pay off lease first then

sell. I couldn't understand how you could sell it first since you don't have a title. Actually, if he's dealing with a bank, he could avoid a large cash layout (let's assume conservatively he's paying $450 a month X 25 months left= $11,250!) and just inquire about buying the car right away. The bank could get a Blue Book estimate based on the value now, and he could arrange to buy right away.

The bank is still going to get their interest either way, actually, theoretically they would get more since the interest would be on the full value and not on the lease period.

Anyway, I don't mean to nitpick, I just didn't understand how you could sell it first and then pay it off later. :-)

Default Re: 2001 hardly affects 2000 prices...

This is my next question precisely!

I have yet to take advantage of the ESP modifications and truly wondered if i should. The spoiler, i could take or leave, prefer to leave it actually and I have yet to take a turn at 100mph so the ESP mods, eh.

Two questions:

1st: From a resale perspective should i get the ESP done? sounds like i shouldnt.

2nd: Being that it is a leased vehicle am I required to get the ESP done?

thanks for your help folks!
