Default Update on my mushy brakes...

So I just called the shop and asked for the status. (Pet Peeve #1: Not keeping me informed of what is going on, to the point that I have to call to ask.) The guy put me on hold and come back and said "The tech said it's ready for you to be picked up."
Me: "Well, what'd they do?"
Shop guy: "Uh, I don't know. Do you want to talk to the tech?"
Me: "Yes, put him on." (Pet Peeve #2: Not knowing what work was done. They knew my car was in there because I had to return the car when the work they did was not finished. Put the tech on first, if you don't know what work was done when I call.)

So the tech said that the pads were not bedded in. I told him I tried to do this, like five or six times, and the pedal went TO THE FLOOR each time. He said he took it out this morning and experienced that too. He thought "Hmm that's kind of strange." So he rebled (rebleeded?) them and then took it out and bedded them in well and they are fine. He said they grab now.

I told him I had search the Audi forum and found reports of bad batch of Mintex pads... He said "you know, that may be the case, but they are OK now."

What do you think? Maybe they completely forgot to bleed the brakes and he didn't want to admit that? Or did they truly need to be bedded in? They were not getting any stiffer in the least when I was trying to bed them.

Yep I hope you are right, rather than defective pads.

Default a local e30 BMW guy just had the exact same experience with Mintex pads...

he changed them out for Hawk HPS and his issues were gone.

Default did you ask them to change fluid or something like that? no need to bleed if you don't open the

lines....

Default I put some new A8 rotors on my son's Passat and it took a while for them to do correctly.

Bled the brakes 2x and used my kid on the pedal as I used the vacuum bleeder.

When out and bedded the brakes 2x but still had a bit of soft pedal.

After about 2 weeks of driving, the pedal was very firm.

I think I did not clean the new rotors well. Instructions say to was the rotors in Dawn detergent. I probably did not do that and the rotors probably still had residual grease from machining.

This could very well be the issue in your case with new rotors.

Ask them how they cleaned the rotors.

Default I foresee new pads in your -near- future......

just be careful, remember you are running on suspicious (a.k.a. bad) brakes. If your pads are mushroomed they are BAD, and that's all.
