Have used both V1 and 8500. Although I don't agree with all of their analyses, radartest.com gives nod to 8500. I believe someone on this site tested them side by side recently and preferred V1. Tough call but probably can't go wrong with either. Bel 980 is also a great detector and cheaper than V1 & 8500.

http://www.radartest.com/</a

No offense, but the chances of getting tagged with instant-on Ka in Nebraska or almost any of the sparsely populated states is minimal compared to literally multiple hits in a day even in a small upstate NY community. Big state budgets mean higher density, higher quality speed enforcement.
It's kinda like flying "downtown" in a war.
(Hanoi in VietNam era for you without grey hair).
If you live/drive in a high-threat area, and plan to speed seriously...go V1. Don't take a knife to a gunfight.
Speed smart!

shot each individual vehicle in front of him. Instant on can also be instant off. Often burst is less than a second in duration.
About the only defense is to notice the little 'brap-brap' as vehicles in front of you is timed. Do not ever ignore a brap-brap until you confirm it's not a Ka I/O. Signal strength is also very low.
Around here the State uses some Z-28 Camaros, which were the first to get Ka I/O, it seemed. That was 4-5 years ago. We had a Cop Camaro pass us (on rural Interstate) at what I guessed was over a buck-twenty by the rate he disappeared. No lights, no radar, just a blue/gold streak. We were 20 over with most of the traffic, and were ignored.
