Default vag tool vs scan tool

can anyone tell me the difference between the two. is it two names for the same thing or what

Scan tool just gives codes. Full VAG COM lets you log channels, change settings, do a LOT more...

Default so is a vag tool . . . .

better than a scan tool? will it do all cars or just german rides? sorry to ask about something i know nothing about but i really only want to buy one once.

Default It is the best tool for VAG cars, and I believe it will work like a normal scan tool for all

OBD-II vehicles.

The VAG actually let's you modify settings through the VAG port in the car. The scanner will only let you see error codes and, in some cases, clear them out. So the VAG tool will do what the scan tool can do, plug a whole lot more.

As far as how knowledgeable you need to be to use the VAG Tool, I'm not sure. That's a question that I have myself.

It's pretty easy to use. If you have problems, there is a VAGCOM forum here as well.
