Default Valentine 1 in VA

Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia. While I am generally a law-abiding citizen I would like to get a radar detector since we plan to go on a few long trips (DC to IA, DC to CA).

Fellow DC area TT owners - can I legally install a radar detector and keep it turned off unless I cross the state line?

LarryTT - did I see the Valentine 1 with some sort of concealed display on your site? If we get one installed we'd like to keep it subtle vs sticking on the dash/windshield with suction cups.

Anyone?

I'm sitting at work with our new stock 225 QC in the parking lot dreaming up a wishlist of mods. Patience!

Thanks.

Andy

Default Re: Valentine 1 in VA

I've seen the remote display mounted into the rearview, still have to put the rest somewhere?

Default I used mine througout VA last year . . .

My V1 unit hidden behind my rearview mirror and the remote display is between my gauges on the cluster. The Remote is $40.

You still need to mount the unit as high as possible and still have it stick out to catch laser/radar from behind.

Default Photos/description?

I see the photo of the display on your site - what about the unit itself? How is it wired?

Thanks.

Default ok, let me explain this . . .

I hardwired my V1 into the back of the fuse panel the night I picked my car up. This was before I got a digi cam and also before I found the forum! I never actually documented what I did! lol

I plan on documenting what I did and will post it once I remove my lower dash panal. That should be this week.

Suffice it to say I found a switched wire that was not being used by anything else, something like the cell phone, but I forgot which exactly!

All of the photos I have taken to this point are on my site, as I said I will take a few more of where and how I wired everything once I take the dash off.

I'd definitely appreciate seeing how it's done - thanks!

Default not a problem. If I don't post it this week, send me an e-mail asking for it . .

It just means I either forgot to do it or didn't have time and I will then do it on Saturday.
