Default wacky tach

The cluster on my wife's TT went out...all guages dead, center blank, so we sent it out to the place in MA that repairs them. Came back with comment that they could find nothing wrong with it. All their tests showed it to be in proper working order. OK, put it back in place and VOILA! everything's working fine again ...except....the tach reading is waaaaay off. Car at idle shows ~5000rpm. Seems to work OK, but it has it's zero around 4K. Battery? Cable? Connection? I'm thinking about pulling the cluster and putting some electrical gel on the connectors for a start. Any other suggestions?

Clean everything carefully and check your contacts. Can you get contact cleaner? That should help

Try going to Radio Shack and asking for DeOxIt or a similar product.
