Am envious of all of those chatting about their TT's. Mine is expected any day .... can't wait.
Seem like I'm one of the few female, soon-to-be-owners. Was trying to be practical and buy the A4 or A6, then saw the TT at the New York Auto Show and was cooked. Put the deposit down immediately. Test drove two weeks ago and gave the Danbury (CT) Audi salesman a heart attack. He advised my first purchase should be the best radar detector money can buy.
Am clueless about those things. Anyone have a detector that is almost foolproof? Suggestions would be appreciated. Den

Den,
I should be picking up my TT on thursday and its been a terrible wait for all the paperwork etc to be completed. My poor car has been at the dealer over a week... I feel your pain.
Regarding the radar detector, nothing is foolproof and they certainly dont guarantee you no speeding tickets. After reading this and the a4.org forum for 2 years now, I think the consensus is that the Valentine One detector is the best. Its not cheap ($399) for the detector and an additional $40 for a "concealed display" that plugs directly into your cigarette lighter. The valentine has 2 antennas (front and rear) to hopefully detect police from any angle.
Remember, the detector isnt going to save your butt if you're doing 90 in a 55, but if you're doing say 75 you should have enough warning to slow down to a more reasonable (read: legal) speed.
You might also want to do a search in the archives on this subject and that will be very helpful.
Good luck on your new car.
-Jim S.
98 A4 2.8qms
00 TT 180

I gave up on the dome light idea. Couldn't get the assemblies down without chance of breaking something. I'm sure somone will figure it out. I just ran a power cord along the headliner and a-piller to the fuse panel. Used a Radio Shack tap and put it into the spare fuse opening. I don't recommend the taps where a fuse exists. It can spread the socket too wide. Works great. Activated by the key. Don't forget the inline fuse. I didn't use the V1 tap since it's so large. I could give you the wiring instructions for the V1 if you need them. -Pete

Yes, you can hide the wire in a a-pillar. I use a paperclip and bent the end of it 180 degrees. Clamped it with Vice-grips and used it to carefully pull the edge of the moulding away enough to stuff the wire (phone wire). Headliner is no problem.
As far as locating the V1, there are reasons you DON'T want it up in that space you suggest (plus it's too big). If you put a detector behind a tint, you decrease Lidar effectiveness. I also think you decrease Radar effectiveness but I'm not sure. Plus you are too high for Lidar. Lidar is usually shot at your bumper/plate. It's a good place for Radar though. But, again I think strength loss occurs.
If you don't have a V1, run and get one. It's the best. I have an original that has been upgraded twice (no need to buy a new one). We just bought another for my wife's new 328i. Super. -Pete
