Default Washing car for the first time in cold weather. Any tips?

It's 33 degrees right now... should warm up to ~40 degrees, but the A4 needs a wash, badly.

Default I rinse VERY well before soaping up

that salt is VERY abrasive and it would be a shame to scratch up those nice black vehicles you own..

Default Fill up the bucket with warm water from your bathtub>>

That way your hands aren't freezing the whole time, plus, the warm water helps break down the grime better.

Default Water/Car Temp

Make sure that you don't use hot water on a cold car. Warm up the car in your garage and use lukewarm water, not hot. Hot water on a cold car can crack your paint.

Nice vehicles! Black looks great clean but gets dirty easy. Make sure you wash in straight lines with the length of the car and don't make circles with the sponge. You'll get swirls in the paint.

Default Don't get too attached to the "clean" look. ;-)

In New England, it will gone before you get to the end of your block, especially as things warm up after snow.

I make a weekly visit to the coin-op wash place, stand well away from the car due to H2O "overboost", lotsa soap, and use a very open cell natural type sponge to avoid grinding salt and sand into the paint. Bring a bucket and fill/refill with clean water to rinse the sponge out as you go around.

I hope you've coated the ragtop with protectant, it can really get gunked up with salt and crud.
