Waterpump re-install leaks worse!!! WTF!!
Ok, I just took everything apart, cleaned it, checked it, added a layer of protection of silicone where it meets the block, and it leaks worse than before.
Do the bolts need a layer of teflon tape like on my old Camaro, or do those holes not reach into the system.
There was a second O-ring that came in the kit that I'll use instead of the one that was pre-installed on the new WP. This is crazy.

It went in perfectly, and the bolts went in super smooth
Maybe the first o-ring isn't working, I suppose I should have switched that on this go around, so next reinstall will be the different o-ring, a bigger bead of sealant and teflon tape on the threads.

id guess, ur oring isnt any good, or ur pump is junk. did u clean any crusty gunk off
the opening in the block the pump go's into? iv had lots of vr6's leak from build up inside the block where the pump sits causing the seal to buckle when inserted into place.
id exchange the pump where ever u got it and get a new one and start over.

You shouldn't need any sealant or teflon tape >>
Nobody else did, including myself. There is something that isn't right with how the wp is sealing and obviously the band-aid approach isn't working. It's probably something like what carsluTT is saying.

No gunk, just a small area where the last ring sealed, and on re-install I made it shiny first
I will try the o-ring on this one before returning the pump itself. I can't imagine that the pump itself could be bad.

Don't use silicone...
and don't use steel wool to clean the bore. Get some brass wool, it's softer than steel and will remove built-up minerals and corrosion without scratching the bore. Alternately, some very fine (240 or more) wet-or-dry sandpaper, but make sure you clean it out well afterward.
Lubricate the o-ring with some coolant before installing. If you really want to use a sealant, use a non-curing one, like Hylomar. But, none is needed.

Gotcha. The steelwool was much finer than sandpaper, and it didn't need much at all
I did lubricate the o-ring on the second install as well. When I took it out, it looked perfectly fine. I'll have an update by the end of the week for sure on try number three. Thanks for all your input.
