Way to add grease to CV joint ?
Hi, my TT makes clicking noises when making u-turns. I checked all the CV boots and they are fine. I pushed the boot in on the front pasenger side outer boot, and I couldn't feel any grease inside the boot. It's like the grease disappeared. The car has 65K and I just got it a month ago.
I was thinking of poking a very small hole on the small area of the boot, buying a grease gun with a needle end, then pumping some grease in there. I was then going to glue/silicon the hole shut. Obviously buying a new axle would work, but it's expensive and a PITA job.
Would that work? I'm just afraid the boot would start to tear once a hole is in it. I figure with the grease in there it would be good for years more.

you could if you cut the boot clamp then replaced with a new, butt....
if the cv joint is already clicking adding grease isn't going to cure it. It needs a new cv joint. sorry for the bad news, just letting you in on the truth.

just replace the freakin joint and live worry-free.... sheesh!!!!
that is if the joint is the actual problem. sounds like you need a professional opinion on that.
and the outer is far from a PITA job...

Used a hypo needle-equipped grease gun to do this with my old air-cooled beetle
worked Ok as far as I remember. And although OldSchool's advice is the "proper" approach, you've got nothing to lose by injecting some grease with a needle-equipped grease gun. Worse that happens is that the needle hole tears larger, necessitating a removal of the joint anyway. So it may be worth a try.
But my TT has always made an occasional clicking when making sharp turns. Been this way for 3-4 yrs, so your problem may not progress too quickly.

I looked around internet and couldn't find a cv joint kit for 3.2 anywhere (all were 1.8T's). The problem I've had in past was wrong splines, and getting the inner cv in/out. I guess replacing the outer cv joint wouldn't be so bad as replacing the whole axle.
Anyone know a good place to get one?
