Well, it finally happened...

After two months, I have the most mysterious "ding" on my car - two perfect rings imprinted on the back bumper - my suspicion is that is happened in a parking garage. Way too deep to compound out, about 1cm in diameter each, right on top of one another, through the paint. I figure I can fill it in with touch up paint from audi right now (I hate the thought of that) or maybe someone else has a better suggestion short of replacing the panel (it is the one that has the rear license plate mounting in it).

First, I have read great things about paintless dent removal. These folks use a variety of different sized instruments that they slip behind the dented panel and then slowly massage it out. The smaller the dent, the better the results. Your's sounds like it would be a snap.
Secondly, and I struggle with this too, isn't it inevitable that the little dings and scratches are going to creep in? Maybe it's all just part of aging gracefully? Just a thought.

The imprint is from the license plate bolt of the offender. I avoid parallel parking at all costs since most people are incapable of doing it without hitting your car. Hope you can restore it without too much trouble.

Can those be fixed without repainting an entire fender?<p><img src= "http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/bluedenimsig.jpg">

....I have a guy that comes to the dealership every few days to take care of rock chips, scrapes and so forth. The franchise is called Chips Away. You may want to take a look in your phone book to see if there's a local guy that has this franchise in your area.
The results are a lot cleaner than traditional touch-up methods. It's more of an airbrush process.
I'm totally sold on the way that they repair paint problems like you're describing. I have had no reservations at all with my guy doing repairs on 300,000 dollar cars.
Give it a shot.<p>Jason Dale

I had a self inflicted 3 inch scratch down the side of our TT (rear driver qtr panel, just below side rear window). Took it to the dealer and of course they wanted to paint the entire panel. Didn't like that idea so my sales rep says they have a ding guy out every week. He did a great job without doing a whole panel (although he did do a much larger part of the panel than the 3 inch scratch. Looks ALMOST as good as new. I still haven't Zaino'd it to verify the shine quality but it looks pretty darn close after he buffed it out this week. Good luck but know that there is hope.
