I love it for these reasons.
More stable then Windows 2000, and leaps and bounds over 95/98/ME
Faster then 2000 and the 9x crew
it is the way all the Windows are going, you will have to upgrade at some point
very slick user interface- fancy for the end user, powerful enough for a server
drivers are pretty easy to come by, and if they are not out now, I bet it will be no longer then a month.
Runs all my software, except DirectCD- new version coming out, and a software DVD player.
Overall, I would recommend it for ANYONE using a windows PC now, and for Mac lovers- a good second machine, probibly will convert a few Mac people when it is fully released onto new PC's

It depends on where you're coming from. If it's a computer that comes with XP, great. If you are upgrading from 3.1, 9x, Me, or NT - go for it. If you are on 2000, I'd wait. And if you are thinking servers, you'll have to wait for a while.
It's not bad now, but 2000 SP2 works well for me.

As someone who uses both Mac and on occasion has to deal with the Windows world, I have real worries about the security issues I have read about with XP. In addition, isn't XP the first step in MS plan to have you "rent" or "lease" your software and OS? That also kinda has me bothered. I have to upgrade a couple of WIN machines here at the office and I also have some OSX (Mac) conversions coming up. The whole thing is kinda interesting.

I don't think their structure for this system has been laid out yet. But if it were a system where you pay say, 100 per year for the service adn through that service you could install an OS and Office and maybe another app, It wouldn't be bad at all. especially when you consider having to pay 200+ for office, $200 for win2k, etc, etc. and then do it all over a year or two later, the price really evens out.
On the security front, Microsoft is actually becoming an active participant in the world of network security and internet security more directly. While they still aren't perfect they are better. Their updates and patches are easier to find and become available much quicker than in the past. They'll only get better. Just as windowsupdate.com was a step in the right direction, the MPSA is a step in the right direction as well. It'll take time before it's perfect but it's a good first step.
