You have to wait for someone to respond. Then the thread will show up at the top of the screen.

Default yes... it will appear on your screen only...

in a highlighted color. new posts will be boldface. the "up" button updates the thread to "read" status, if you have seen all the posts and want the thread to move back down until the next new post.

pretty cool feature!
