What happens to the value of our 225 hp Roadsters when the V6 is introduced next year?

Not True
The article is misleading. The VR6 engine doesn't fit under the TT hood - and that's from Audi. The V6 will make it into the TT+ which will be an 05 model in USA.

More on this
Spoke to an engineer from Ingolstadt on Friday and my question to him was very specific and this was his answer.
The car needs major re-engineering with subframe, sump, cooling, and suspension for the VR6 to get under the hood of a TT.
Technically it's possible but Audi does not feel it's worth the money based on the cost of the car with these changes and who the car would compete with (M3, Boxter S) on pricing. Hence they will look at a V6 (note difference) for the TT+ in 05.

I suspect the price of the newer TT's with bigger engine will skyrocket and be up around $50K.
If I am paying that for a new TT, then I've got alot more cars to start thinking about in that range, namely M3 and Boxster S.
Now if Audi can keep the price below $40K, then the current TT values will not hold. But then the 2001's will be three years old and probably sell in the low 20's. Keeping the looks of your TT up will go greatly in helping to sell the car. I think there will be a large market of people that like the looks of a TT, but cannot afford one at $40K, but would gladly pay $20K for a pristine TT a few years down the road.
I would only be enticed by a new TT if it had the following:
3.0L BiTurbo
Was all aluminum and weighed 400 lbs less.
Came with HiFlow Exhaust, 19" Wheels, Power Seats

The R32 V6 fits!!
There are TT's running around with the R32 engine in them as Audi are testing at the moment. If the board sign it off this month then the car will come to the UK with first deliveries of Coupes in May followed by Roadsters a month or so after.
"IF" all testing is deemed successful and the board sign it off, you can expect a 250-260bhp V6 TT with tiptronic style paddle shift. You guys may get it earlier than us as you are the biggest market and they will do LHD before they start making UK RHD models.

Yes it fits but...
it requires a number of serious changes to make it work. It will cost significantly more if it goes into production. It might also require type approval and new crash testing which will delay its introduction.
