Default What to look for in a used TT?

I'm new here, so if there's a FAQ around that covers this, I apologize and would appreciate a point in the right direction.

I'm looking at a 2000 TT 180 FWD w/6K miles at my dealer later today. I wanted one a year and a half ago, but opted instead for an A4 2.8 Quaatro (seemed more practical and was immediately available). Although it's been a flawless ride for a year an a half, the A4 is a bit sterile and I'm looking back toward the TT, which is more readily available now.

I'm scouring the boards for tips on what to look for when buying a used TT and would appreciate any guidance from the forum.

Thanks,
Dave

I almost bought a fwd TT with 7,500mi., but then found a TTQ with 15,000mi. When I drove them both the Q was awesome! It cost me about $1,500 more but I think it was money well spent

Default One issue with 2000 FWD TT's is their transmission...

I have that car and had the infamous second gear grind- this is a well documented
issue with the transmission when shifting from first to second gear. You can search the archives for more information- brad willis is the resident expert on this. I ultimately had my transmission replaced at about 6000 miles and its better than new since (got the car in May of 1999). So recommend you pay special attention to the transmission when going into second gear - tell the dealer youre aware of this particular issue if you ultimately buy the car. good luck!
