What are the restrictions on getting a loaner car.

When I bought my car I was under the impression which ever dealership you go to, if the car is in the shop you get a loaner car, be it a rental or an Audi. But the shop I just called said that I had to buy it from their dealership. Is this true. I have never been asked this before.

A dealer should honor their policy whether you
bought the car from them or not. I mean what if
you moved from one state to another? This is BS.

Their Loaner fleet consists of 2000 A4, 2000 A6, 1997 A6, 1996 A6, and other A4's/A6's I've yet to get.
No questions asked, within a week of calling (traditionally) I have a loaner gassed up, washed, and running with either heater/ac depending on season when I get it.
I've driven the loaners sometimes over 800 miles in the day I have them due to traveling for work to Jefferson City MO or Wichita, KS from KC. I asked ahead of time about that and they said that it was no problem.
The sales process was one of the most pleasant things I've experienced, and I have not had a single issue with the service dept. The men and women there know me on sight when I drop of my car (OK, it may be easier because they only sold 6 225 TT Roadsters when I bought mine) but they know me and my wife every time. I switched dealers and started bringing in my wife's Beetle for service due to the experience with the Audi side. Beetle is a little less on quality of service, but still miles ahead of previous VW Service experiences.
So if you live in KC, and don't have a TT yet, go buy one from Mac Mulkins and tell him that I sent you and that I need a big discount coming up later this year when we trade in my wife's vehicle for our family car. I'd like a Allroad at about $20k so we need to buy lots of cars from them 8-P

While my TT in shop waiting for parts to replace the clutch, dealer didn't have a Audi loaner for me in the first place, so I drove home a rental. But the service manager told me he will try to swap an Audi loaner for me whenever it's available.
A week later I got a call from dealer said there is a Audi for me. So I went to pick it up later that day then found out that's a brand new A4. The service manager said "at least to let you drive an Audi".

Varies with dealers.
I can get one for SERVICE only. Not Warranty work. Plus it is only for the duration of the warranty.
Audi is so behind on this issue compared to other brands in the same class. Hopefully they will get their act together in the near future.
Just don't get me started on service hours. lol.
