What sensors are used to calculate EGT? What EGT do our cars normally show?
I've been suspecting for a while that my car may be reading exhaust gas temps to high/low causing "unsteady" boost levels. Will wrong EGT readings cause this behavior? If so, how can I diagnose whats causing the bad readings and what are the normal readings?

several things besides EGT can cause boost to fluctuate>>>
ambient temps, intake temps, actual temp car is running at...EGT would help to determine if you are running rich or lean.....
All of the numbers are available via vag on EGT...check block 217 in VAG...as it will give you Lambda too...then you can multiply lambda by 14.7 and that will give you A/F...there should be a coorelation of A/F to your O2s1 reading, which is EGT read at the first sensor on the back of the manifold....

On testing the ****>>>
i saw a O2S1 range on average, of 515deg to high of 750....and the car was running pretty rich there....according to lambda.
This range was across 2 third gear pulls, from 2k rpm's to about 6400rpms....
Subsquently, in the last 2 months, i replaced the S1 O2 sensor as it was starting to generate intermittent errors in VAG...so i replaced it before it failed.
