I may just go with OEM if I can't find MT90/Amsoil locally. I know a couple of very good techs and one says stick with OEM and the other says Amsoil. When I said a lot of people on the forum had used MT90 he said Amsoil was similar but better. There is nothing like realy experience though from people with the same car.
I'll see what I can get before the weekend and go with that.

never had a problem, used it in my GTI without any problems and my friend uses it in his GTI with 240K without any problems my friends toyota pickup with 340+K miles all use redline, I would say thats fairly long term.
my guess is that if those cars did need bearings it was not because of the redline oil.
I think what happens a lot is that people will develop tranny problems and then try to switch oils in hopes of miracle cure, then eventually get the original problem fixed, so from the point of the mechanic he sees cars with redline or amsoil etc with problems and blames the oil.

I've got GL4 in my trans, an old AmsOil product. All of the great results I've posted have been with this oil. It's been superceeded by Severe Gear, which I recommended in the link posted above by jhoeppel. However, Severe gear is GL5. Although AmsOil states that Severe Gear is fully compatable and can be used in all GL4 applications, it's not strictly in compliance with Audi's GL4 spec for the TT gearbox. I've had great results with AmsOil gear lubes and motor oils, and trust them. Since they say Severe Gear will work in our rather unique, combined "transmission, front differential and bevel box" application, I'm going to try it at my next drain. But for anyone who's concerned about using GL5 in your TT, AmsOil does have a GL4 75w-90 available.
"MTG" Synthetic Manual Transmission 75w90 GL4
"SVG" Synthetic Extreem Pressure 75w90 GL5
You can read up on all of their stuff in the "online store"<ul><li><a href="http://www.amsoil.com/">here</a></li></ul>

He apparently didn't know that MTG was superseded by SVG... he got it from his distributor and I put in what he gave me. And that was MTG GL4.
BTW, their bottle pump is slick and virtually eliminates spills. $11 well spent.
