Last night I noticed a small puddle of gas just to the rear of the drivers side door. The smell inside the car was pretty strong also. So I drive home and park the car. I go out this morning to check it. I don't see any gas dripping outside the car. but I can smell it just standing a few feet away from the car and the smell inside the car is still very noticable. I do plan on getting the car into service this week to have it checked out. But i'm curious, anyone know what would cause this or what I can look at myself for possible damage in that area? Thanks in advance.

smelling the gas that strongly it could be extremely dangerous. Could be a severed gas line or a pin hole or leaky injectors. It might only leak when the engine is running so you wouldn't see it after leaving the car sit.I had a 200SX go up in flames . Bad injectors. It was toast in a few minutes!

the smell is only coming from the rear drivers side though. I checked under the hood and under the front of the car and can't smell anything up there. Only from the drivers side door towards the rear. Thanks.

.....jack it up and look around where you smell the gas. You could turn on the key(without starting the motor) to engage the fuel pump & might see it spurting out under the car somewhere. If you don't have mechanical skills it would be better to just wait & tow it to dealer. It's a great day for a drive but not worth your life!

fuel sending units. Several of us have had the same problem, FSU seal leaking, which leads to gas smell inside and out and sometimes leaking gas.
Call the dealer.
Call the dealer.

and it's definitely only coming from the drivers side. I thought at first that it was coming from both sides but it was only the breeze blowing the smell back the other way. it's coming from directly below the curve in the bottom rear of the drivers door. Any clue what is under there or what might be in that area that has to do with the fuel system? Thanks.
