Default Whats the difference???

Does anyone know how the 1.8t motors vary between the 180hp TT and the 225hp TT?? What is done mechanically or is it just upped boost?. I'm just curious as to the modifications that would need to be done to make it a 225 from a 180.

Default Quite a bit. Inside, the bottom end of the engine is beefier. The configurations are completely

different. the 180s are very easily modded and there is actually more available for them (APR Stage 3) than for the 225.

Default 225 has larger turbo, beefier bottom end, dual intercoolers...

I think it has bigger injectors as well. the 225 is also coupled with a 6 speed vs a 5 speed.

Default Crank is the same on all DBW transverse 1.8ts

Not matter what engine code or HP.. And they are all Forged.

The rods in the ATC and AMU are the same.. which are also the same as the rods in the AWD, APH, ATW and AEB. Basically 00 golf, jetta, GTI, NB (and some early 01s), 98-00 A4 and passat. And also older 16V VWs.. They are stronger then the later longitudinal and AWP transverse rods but still far from great. Its been aroun 350+ whp that the later AWP rods seem to let go. While you can get over 400whp out of the earlier rods before failure.

CR is very questionable because using VW as an example they claim the AWW (late 01 only engine) is lower then the AWP and AWD (like an ATC) however the parts are 100% identical between the AWP and AWW.. Also people have done some testing and found that they are all lower then what they claim..

Default I was under the impression the crank on 180 was >

NOT as strong as the 225's, and the same for the rods. I have an 01 awp - are you saying my rods are the 'later' ones?

Default Yup as joe said you have the later ones

Cranks are the same on all the DBW transverse 1.8ts so you are good there.

The rods like I mentioned don't see to have problems till about 350whp.. That seems to be the magical breaking point on the later AWW/AWP rods. They also unfortunately look like pics of the 2.0T rods which is very unfortunate... Whether they are the same or not they are made with the some procedure which is really the downfall and they are just as skinny...

I"ve got some AWP rods laying around.. not early rods though, but I may take a part a 16V I have soon.. If I do I'll post up some pics along with some Pauter aftermarket rods you can really see the difference.

Default Don't they have smaller wrist pins as well 19mm vs. 20mm?

I thought that was one of the other differences.
