What's the optimum ride height of a TT?
I know it's been mentioned before that my car is too low, and that for performance purposes it isn't good. So I was thinking today "then what would the optimum ride height" be then?
Also, why is being low bad? I thought lowering the center of gravity, decreased drag, etc. would be good... so the lower the better. Race cars are always super duper low. What's bad about it?

Is designed for very low ride heights. Ours isn't. You compromise some functionality as well as wheel travel when you slam it.. For those that are all about the look, that's OK. I'm all about function. Much more than an inch to 1.25 starts messing with the design intention..

hmmmm.. ok, can you approximate how much lowered my car is?
so I can get an idea of how much i'd have to raise it to be at the optimal 1.00 - 1.25 inches lowered height?

It's all in the control arms.
The TT/MkIV chassis has the machpherson type front struts. When the front lower control arms are parallel with the ground you're at the best ride height.
When the control arms point upwards, then the geometry will introduce more roll, since the roll center will start going below the ground.
You'll also quickly get positive camber during hard cornering, which makes a camber kit quite important for the front as well.

They are saying that when using Bilstein sports if they lower a Golf Mk IV more than 0.7" that they are on the bump stops..
I wonder if this is the some for our cars..

ding! I knew it had something to do with control arms being level with the ground...
but could not remember why it mattered. IIRC that's how Chris setup his coilovers, started with the control arms level with the ground and then increased height if needed to get the ride height setup all the way around.

That doesn't sound right....>>
The sports have a 22mm shorter shaft which is about .7 inch. That would seem to be a good match to me with more margin to go lower. Plenty here have....unless they're talking about the difference in bump stops with the sports..I dunno...Believe about 20% of what you read on Vortex...Those 20% though are pretty savvy.

Right, so start with the control arms level...
and then increase ride height as necessary to corner balance the car. And I believe that the suspension has 1/4" of rake from the factory, not sure if that is related to corner balancing or not.
