What's up with the rattle in the car when the compressor is on?

What's up with the rattle in the car when the compressor is on?
My TT rattles rather noisily when the compressor is on. It cools fine, but if I push the econ button, the rattle stops, and comes up when I go on cobble stone streets etc. It seems obviously like there's a loose panel or something.
So the dealership has replaced a strut, and is not replacing the axel. What logic are they using?
All I want is my car back without the rattle. Is that too much to ask for, especially since that dang Honda Prelude next to me is quieter than my TT (with the rattle, without the rattle, the TT is smooth as silk)?
