My 225Q has done just over 2000 miles, was wondering whether I should have the oil/filter changed at 3k miles, or leave to 5k or even 10k, as the manual suggests?? Does Audi (UK) use Synthetic Oil?? Is it advisable to perform this first Oil change at 3k myself??

much posted on forum about merits of using fully synthetic lube after losening up/bedding in of rings period. I don't but I am sure engine may benefit. Semi seems a good cost.performance compromise..

Whenever you change, I strongly recommend you use Moble One synthetic oil. I used it for 17 years in my UR-Quattro and had 100% reliable internal mechanical reliability and the turbo was just as strong when I sold it as when new. You can actually feel the difference the way the car runs and pulls and starts, kinda like a chip job for free, and it never turns grey and icky like Valvaline synthetic or others.

Matt,
Here in the States, Audi will pay for the first oil change at 5000 miles. Personally, since I have heavy "commuting" mileage, I'm taking my 180Q in on Friday and paying for an oil change myself at roughly 2500 miles. I've always changed the oil in my cars at somewhere between 2500 and 3000 miles...my father taught me that it was one of the best investments one could make in the life of a car's engine.
As for your "synthetic" question...I'm going to have to make that same decision at 5000 miles or so. I'll talk to the service advisors on Friday and see what they think.

...this is a "hot-button" topic for sure. But based on a lot of information I've read on A4.org (now AudiWorld.com), it's not advisable to change your oil before Audi's first recommended oil change interval. This is to help allow the rings to seat properly. Much, much more info on this topic is available in the archives and the FAQ section.

I don't have my service mannual with me, but I'm pretty sure Audi changed the oil at 5,000 miles. I am having the 10,000 mile service this week and expect it will be changed again. People seem to panic here if the oil isn't changed every 3,000 miles, but I think its a plot dreamt up by the big oil companies and Saddam Hussein.
