When is the fuel tank really empty? when computer tells 0 or not?
There I was driving down the moderately steep road, stopped at the sign, took a left and engine stops 10 m after on a flat lane.
Computer tells 10km before empty and engine doesn't want to start. Did I just break down because of lack of petrol....
Your opinions, please.
P.S. I seem to have starting problems since last summer on full or empty tanks with stuttering starts on occasions, cold or mild weather.

Computer was accurate on our A4
A few years ago my wife was driving our 98 A4. She called me when the computer went to 5 miles. She was 6 miles from home. She called when she ran out of gas 1 mile from home.

Your asking for trouble driving on the dregs of your gas tank IMO...
There can be so much crap in the the tank .Water, sediment & general funkiness reside there! Why would you want to chance sucking it into your fuel system where it could wreak havoc?

Never drive with less than a half tank. The gas gage may be faulty
(there was a recent post about this), also, you may get dirty gas if you use the las drops of the tank, and for security (at least in my part of the world).

Can this habit of not having enough fuel have an impact on funky starts?
I have been having those stutters at random starts with full or 1/4 full tanks. I suspect crappy gas to be the problem.
