Why did you buy a Audi TT over a Porsche Boxster? I have my reasons. Whats yours?

I'm almost embarrassed to admit it now. But I actually went to the Porsche/Audi dealership in Coral Gables, FL fully expecting to leave with a Boxster. I hadn't even considered the TT. In fact, I knew almost nothing of it. I test-drove three Boxsters and was fairly satisfied. It was the dealer who (almost as a second thought) suggested I also test-drive the TT. From the moment I stepped in, looked around, felt the clutch, the handling, and the standard goodies included, there was no looking back. I, too, chose the 225 Roadster 2002. Best decision I ever made.

The Boxster is ugly especially with the top up (the TT roadster with the top up is no beauty either) and has a a problematic rear end like the carerra convertible. I refuse to pony up $2k for every Porsche logo on a wheel, headrest etc...or $2k for each small section of leather on a shift ****, dash etc...making a $45k car a $65k car. The TT came fully endowed at a fair price.

I need the extra space that a coupe allows over a roadster, I couldn't afford a Porsche, and I wanted something I could drive all year and be safe in. The TT meets all of these requirements.

I seriously considered a Porsche Boxster brfore settling on the Audi TT. In fact I attended the Boxster debut at the Scottsdale Princess in late September 1996 and had a deposit at my Porsche dealer to take delivery of the very first car in the state. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed with the interior design of the Boxster. Early cars featured an "environmentally-sound" material that had the feel and appearance of black painted expanded foam bead. The cars were nice to drive especially given the opportunity to drive aggressively on the way to Bartlett (sp?) Lake. The poor execution of the interior and the high price for options, HID's for example, switched my choice rapidly. I had known of the Audi TT from the 1995 show cars and waited to see if it would make it to production. I am definitely glad I waited.
