Why are T3/T4 turbos so cheap compared to ours?

they're a third of the cost and seem capable of supporting substantial hp - has anyone here got any experience with them (I know APR uses Garrett's on the stage 3 kits)?

Majestic turbos out of Waco TX, who rebuilt RyanE's (several times, it seems...). Was being told it was a good platform that had internals which could be relatively easily modified/upgraded - and thereby retain all the 'plumbing' (manifold, tip, downpipe) - in addition to the housing, and in contrast to ours which pretty much require those items be replaced (along with the turbo) with any turbo upgrade. Is this (the T3/T4 "upgrade" capability) right?

That the owner of Majestic had a Turbo Beetle that he modified. I don't know exactly what he did, but I seem to remember that he swapped the K03 internals to something else (T3/T4?).
Anyway...for the 225 K04 he said there wasn't anything more to do bu tweak the existing internals (polishing, trim, etc).
Since your K04 is not the 225 turbo, but actually a K04-15 (correct me if I am wrong), then maybe there are some other options.
Yes, Majestic did build my turbo twice, but they were up front and honest about the whole thing. Minimal hassles over the warranty policy. They also had a very quick turn-around and let me come visit the shop. Not a bad day trip if you are in central Texas.

I have NO problem working with them, based on your earlier exprience/testimonial - that's why I called them. I wanted to see if they could get anything more out of my K04-01 or take my old K03 Sport and amp it up, if any of that was worth doing for the money; he said no, just what you'd done which would help a bit, but that they were for the most part self-limiting, and that's when he started talking about the T3/T4, that - you're right, he'd been running in his turbo beetle; seemed to have good comments on any program tweaking I might want also, fwiw, and the numbers he was talking on that sounded extremely reasonable.
