Our 2-month old 180QC (denim blue!) has developed a crack in the middle of the windshield from the top of the rear-view mirror extending down about 8 inches.
Since there are no pits, scratches or other marks on the windshield and nothing hit the car, I'm inclined to believe this is a stress crack or manufacturing defect.
An initial call to our dealer (Clair in Boston) was met with a "that's not covered by the warranty, call your insurance company"-like response.
Shouldn't this be a warranty repair??
Anyone else have any experience/advise with this?
Thanks

If there are no pits or scratches, it should indeed be a warranty replacement. There is even an audi TSB about it. Just had mine replaced 2 days ago. ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
However, most people's stress cracks start at the BOTTOM of the windshield more or less in the center, work their way up past the wiper blades and make a 90 degree turn from there. Yours is in a different spot, and that may be why they're giving you grief. I suggest you call them back and reference TSB # 64-00-02. Lots of folks here will tell you the same thing.

after only four months of ownership, I have at least six gouges from rocks hitting my winshield on the freeway... make that seven, I got pelted again yesterday, and this one left a star. Lots of traffic and trucks here on 880... it seems unavaoidable. But why so many hits? Because the car sits so low? And what can I do besides replace the windsheild? Are those glass repair services any good? Thoughts?
Damn, am I glad I got Stongard for the paint!!

every few years I have it replaced through the insurance co. I don't want to raise a red flag replacing it every 6 months or so either.

The dealer had to verify for himself that the crack did not originate from a chip or stone hit. The service mgr actually scanned the crack with a magnifying glass. When convinced it was stress crack he gladly agreed to replace it. No charge. I'd suggest trying another dealer.
