Winter tires - HELP

Anyone have a good recomendation for winter tires for my 180TTQC...I live in Westchester county NY (just north of NYC) where the winters are VERY unpredictable. Many days of dry roads so a full snow tire isn't really a great idea. However, I do want the best possible traction in the bad weather because I have a 60 mile commute every day, rain or shine, and need to have confidence that I can get to work and home.
Thanks all<p><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/WaTTson.jpg" BORDER=0></a>

car was great in snow. Tires such as Blizzaks are great, but only if you are on snow and ice most of the time -- our winters would wreck them. As you noted, we're not on snow or ice most of the time, but you have to have a snow tire for when it does snow. Found this to be a good one. But, go to www.tirerack.com and read some of their reviews on the different snow tires. People in our area used a few different ones last year with good results.

Minnesota: Land of 10,000 frozen lakes- sometimes.
This will be the third winter we will run Blizzak WS-15's, steel wheels, on our A4 Quattro.
I had a Chrysler Sebring that I ran them for 2 seasons.
They have been great. Absolutely wonderful in the snow, and on ice. Great stopping power, as well as traction.
The last few years, the winters here have been mild (don't tell anyone this!) I mean, really mild. Last year, mid-Feb., the snow was gone.
Most of the time, when it snows, we get 1-2 days of crappy roads, snow, ice, slush, ice, snow, etc.
Because of the high quality of the road crews that remove the snow, (really) we drive mostly on dry roads, cold, but dry.
I had wondered how the Bridgestone Blizzaks would hold up just on dry pavement. I must admit, I have been satisfied with them. I do expect this will be the last season for the set on the A4, but they have lasted, and still have a good amount of the tread that contains the micro-pores.
I left them on the car 'till mid/late March, as we can get snow anytime, and they did well on the cold dry pavement, but I took them off as soon as the temps got above 45.
I'll probably get this set-up for the TTR, but a newer model tire, maybe the Yokohamas, as they supposedly improved the micro-pore technology.

I have fitted 17" Pirelli P7000 All-season Supersports. So far they have done fine, in rain. I am yet to spend a winter/snow with them. But I don't expect any problems since my last Audi had all-seasons also and these were strongly recommended by couple of ppl who have used them in snow in Chicago area. I do 15 miles commute from Stamford.
These are supposed to be good on both Snow/Mud and dry pavement. Much quieter than RE040s.
$140 per tire.
Hope this helps.<p>Saty C

pirelli winter tires -same size as summers.
Used them in Toronto-also unpredictable weather
fairly quiet even on dry pavement-good steering and braking.
