Default It became the standard cause people complained or they were too expensive

here is a pic... gives you an idea of 4300K vs 6000K... did that on my Porsche at the same time as the TT. Ask Robby, I near blinded him going to Ashville, NC for TT East several years ago.

Default Uh, no.

6000K are illegal in both the US (DOT regulations) and EU (ECE regulation 99, 3.9.1, et seq.).

That's why Philips marks them "Not legal for use in Europe/USA."

Default Was that the case 8 years ago?

Mine were orginally much "bluer" from the factory when I picked up the car April 2000, it was very noticeable.

Default Then why do other auto makers headlights look different then Audis?

Also how does that explain the significant difference in my own headlights back in the day?

Default I don't think they are...

significantly different, at least in the main beam. Some may look bluer off-axis due to optics.

As one of my other posts, and the FAQ I linked to, pointed out - as the bulbs age, they get bluer and dimmer. Philips makes a special bulb (85122+ aka 85122CM) which is bluer (4800K) and dimmer (300 less lumens) when new (it still meets DOT and ECE regulations). It was introduced specifically to address complaints about headlight colors being different after replacing one side of an aged pair.

Default the bulbs don't get bluer with time...

they get more yellow maaan!

at least that's what i've seen on my car...and others....hence the reason why i'm replacing mine; as i have one yellower one and one normal bluish one.

Default Not according to the manufacturer's...

or the FAQ I linked to. (google around, too)

Are you sure the yellower one isn't the newer one?
