Default "The new car is merely another Audi inside"

And... that's a bad thing?

Other than that rediculous comment, they liked just about everything else about the TT.<ul><li><a href="http://carsguide.news.com.au/story/0,20384,21185898-5003140,00.html">Review from Down Under</a></li></ul>

Default It is and no it's not a bad thing. The mk1 stood out as being something very different

The mk2 is much more mainstream.

Default Visually, the mkI was not mainstream; however, technologically the mkII is far from mainstream

The visual impact of the original TT is difficult to duplicate, and I for one, consider the TT mkII a worthy replacement. Yes, many may consider the appearance less impactful; however, the car is still stunning and Audi's interiors, and exteriors, still are very distinctive. No other car on the road today can be mistaken for a TT mkII. There may be some aspects that could resemble other vehicles but the entire package is unique.

The TT mk II excels technologically, in ways, that the previous generation could never aspire. The hybird construction is unique and significantly enhances overall performance. The first TT was about beauty while the second generation is about beauty, brains and poise.

I don't see too much in the interior that is very groundbreaking, design or technology-wise.

They have a photo of the MK1 instead of the MK2. Not sure I can take them seriously.

Default The construction technology of the TT is groundbreaking

The interior builds on the core values of a typical Audi interior. The fit, finish, and material quality is significantly greater than those found in similar priced products. The interior, IMHO, is better executed than those found in the Porsche, MB, and BMW competition. Everything about the car feels special.

Default But the original thread was "The new car is merely another Audi inside"

nothing about aluminum/steel construction or comparisons with competitors.

Default Yes, but you stated that, "The mk1 stood out as being something very different"

I then continued the thread by pointing out that the mkII, while not as visually impactful as the original design, is innovative in different dimensions. The mkII may share design elements with other Audi interiors but the relationship of those elements are unique. The TT does not feel or, for that matter, appear the equivalent of A8, A6, or A4. The seat, steering wheel and dashboard relationship is unique to this particular model. The console and instrument binnacle is not found on any other Audi. Hence, combined with my previous comments, the mkII stands for something different, just like the mkI when it was introduced.
