Default 2011 TTS rear right tail lights brighter than left tail lights

Question:

Audi was rear ended back in Sept 2016. Right rear light assembly was replaced. Left is original from 2011. Last fall I noticed rear right tail lights when lights are on & parked are brighter than left. So I figured left bulbs might be older so I replaced those. Still have same issue after left bulbs replaced. Any ideas? See picture. Thanks!

There is a well known ground issue on the tail lights. I had the same issue on the right side. My ground connector was brown and toasty. This video explains the fix fairly well.

Agreed. Take off the light assembly ASAP and check if the connector is melted. If not, you can scrape off the connector corrosion. Otherwise you have to replace the entire assembly - big $$ for the part but it's an easy DIY.

Thanks. I will today. When I changed the bulb a month ago I didn't see any corrosion. But now that I know what to look for I will do a better inspection.

Default It's not corrosion in the bulb socket

It is corrosion in the assembly connector. You would not necessarily remove and inspect the assembly connector to just replace a bulb. I just had an assembly replaced due to melting. Fortunately, it was found just before my CPO warranty expired.

So took out rear left tail light. Looks like some corrosion. Think that DIY will fix it without needing a new assembly?

Yes. It did for me. Follow the basic instructions in the video. You might find a way to attach the wire that works better for you and the parts on hand. But the video shows you the idea. Just follow the ground circuit as it meanders across the back side of the assembly. Get a good connection anywhere along that path.

Thanks. I will try. I also have a great Audi repair guy who is going to look at repining it for me and hope that works.

Helpful DYI. I was able to solve the issue on my 2010 TTS by sanding the connector pins just a bit. It may come back but for now it's fixed.
Thank You.

The real resolve though was running a ground. I’ve had to do this twice now. Though once done, I have peace of mind. Ha, I still have the original rear taillight that I had replaced years ago... somewhere in the garage.
