Had a problem a few weeks ago with the car lurching during acceleration. Thought it was my clutch technique, but definitely not. Car's been fine until yesterday. Reproducable misfiring during acceration in any gear, usually above 3K RPM. I'm taking it in this AM to the dealer and leaving it until the problem is found and fixed. Car's got all of 2200 miles. I want it right. The surprising part is that CEL has never come on with this problem. If it was a faulty spark plug/wire, fuel pump etc. you would expect to see a fault trigger the light. Just when you WANT the CEL to come on, no luck.

That's what happened in my Mk1.

Do you have a OBD scan tool and it will confirm which is miss-firing and after which I'd go straight to the suspect coil-pak.
Also went through the lurching too but it wasn't a real big problem for me so I just ignored it for the most part. I think the throw-out distance is a tad too narrow meaning it's probably a small adjustment to the clutch engagement will cure it.

they took the car home tonight to try to replicate the problem. So far, they've not had it happen. I'll know more tomorrow.

car apparently didn't misfire during extensive testing. They know me better than to think I'm making this up, but not sure where to go from here. I guess if it persists, I'll take of the dealer techs on a test run when it's happening. For now, they ran the computer and zero faults. Not sure what else to do but wait for it to recur. Suggestions?

Interesting - that problem occurred at 52K miles - mine is a brand new engine. Drove back from the dealer - smooth as silk. It's a very intermittent problem, which is why it's so frustrating. I wish it would do it consistently and a CEL would indicate a fault. So far, that's not the case. I'll be back to the dealer if it recurs. I'm documenting everything, especially what I went through with the transmission issues with my '08 S4.

Problem is very intermittent - can run fine for several days, then misfires repeatedly during acceleration. I'll stay on this - and take it back to the dealer when it happens again, and take the tech with me to demo the problem.
